A man in Australia discovered a gold nugget which cost more or less 12 pound. It was reported that this was found by the lucky man in his metal detector. The piece of gold was brought to Ballarat Mining Exchange Gold and according to the owner Cordell Kent that it could worth around $500,000.

The gold prospector has found the nugget around 20 miles from downtown Ballarat with his $6,000 Minelab GPX-5000 metal detector and he had to dig about two feet below the surface to claim the gold nugget.

So what is the real cost of the gold nugget? It depends on what the owner would want to do with it. And according to Ballarat Exchange owner Cordell Kent, that the value of the gold is higher if it is not melted down.

“If you are silly enough to melt it down, it would be worth just under $300,000 on market value but as a nugget at this size and shape, it’s worth significantly more than that … A finding like this gives people hope .. There’s nothing like digging up money, it’s good fun.” – Cordell Kent, Ballarat Exchange
