After the revision of last year’s tsunami disaster, an expert panel said that a 35-metres (115 foot) monster tsunami could hit Japan in the wake of a gigantic earthquake.

The Cabinet Office panel said, Saturday, that the worst case scenario projections of 34.4 metres tsunami could strike the town of Kuroshio in southwestern Kochi.

In its previous projection in 2003, the panel gave a projection in which no areas would be hit by a tsunami of more than 20 metres. But the panel has upgraded its predictions in the wake of the 9.0-magnitude earthquake on March 11 last year that sent tsunami waves hitting the coast of Minamisoma in Fukushima prefecture and killing some 19,000 people.

The panel added that the projection was for “the worst possible tsunami” and the “chance of its occurrence is extremely low”.
