Back-to-back Earthquakes hit San Francisco

A magnitude 4.0 earthquake on the Richter scale rattled the San Francisco Bay Area just after 5:30 a.m. local time Monday. The quake was centered just north of El Cerrito, in the East Bay, and was felt in San Francisco, Berkeley and Marin County eight-seconds after a 3.5 earthquake hit northeast of the state.

According to a research geophysicist, Brad Aagaard, The first quake was a foreshock and probably magnified the effect of the second, larger earthquake.

According to Associated Press, there were no immediate reports of injuries or significant damage.
