Dolphins are known to be social, living in pods of up to a dozen individuals. They go in groups and lives in places with a high abundance of food, pods can merge temporarily, forming a superpod; such groupings may exceed 1,000 dolphins. They communicate using different kinds of clicks or whistle sound or other vocalization.
Lately, in Dana Point California, a stampede of dolphins or superpod was seen at the coast and it was filmed by the people seen the pods. It was estimated that around 500 – 2,000 dolphins were together and seen racing by whale watching boat operated by Dana Wharf.
Though dolphins are always chasing boats, ship and even vessel and race with them. It was part of their natural social behavior. Though superpod is rarely seen, it was a luck for the whale watchers to see such incident nowadays.
