Ginger Morneau, a Victoria woman says she couldn’t believe her eyes when she saw an octopus eating a seagull. Ginger Morneau’s photographs of the octopus dragging the bird under the water goes viral.
It was March 24, 2012, Saturday morning, Morneau, her husband and her brother spotted “Octopus Eating a Seagull” while they are walking along the Ogden Point Breakwater in Victoria, BC.
“From start to finish, from first photo to the last, there were 53 seconds that elapsed,” said Morneau to The Canadian Press. “The struggle itself was really surreal in that it was quiet. You heard the sound of the water and nothing else.”
The Giant Pacific octopus is one the largest octopus species with adults weighing about 15 kilograms and an arm span of more than 4 metres. They usually eat shrimp, crabs, scallops and other fish.
The story and photos of “Octopus Eating a Seagull” were first published by the BirdFellow Journal and are now going viral.
