On Friday, Rubio slid over to cut off Lakers star Kobe Bryant as Bryant dribbled away from Martell Webster. Rubio’s left knee distorted just before he crashed with Bryant. MRI results Saturday revealed that Rubio had suffered a torn anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) and will face a six- to nine-month recovery. Timberwolves will have to figure out how to carry on without the NBA rookie.

“You can’t step backwards because of an injury,” Wolves coach Rick Adelman said before Saturday night’s game against New Orleans at Target Center. “You have to move forward,” says Adelman.

“Thank you everybody for your support,” Rubio said on his Twitter page, @rickyrubio9. “I promise I will be back soon and stronger. There is only one way to take: move forward and stay positive.”
