NEW YORK – Who will be named “Best in Show” at the 136th Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show?

America’s First and Only Champions Only Dog Show Entry are limited to 2,000 dogs. But the WKC has also added six new breeds, including the Cesky terrier which looks like a squatter version of Asta , the Entlebucher Mountain dog which, as everyone knows, is the smallest of Switzerland’s Sennenhunds, the Norwegian Lundehund, the Finnish Lapphund, the American English Coonhound, and the breed that would clean up in Words with Friends—the Xoloitzcuintli.

The show started last February 13, 2012 and will end up today February 14. Individual breed judging will take place each day between 8:00AM and 6:00PM and the finals to be held at 7:30PM today. Westminster began this morning with best in breed judging and tonight’s live coverage will feature the Hound, Toy, Non-Sporting, and Herding Groups. Tomorrow night’s events include the Sporting, Working, and Terrier Groups, culminating of course with Best in Show. In other words America’s Dog for 2012.

The Westminster Kennel Club was established in 1877, making it America’s oldest organization dedicated to the sport of purebred dogs. There have been a total of 301,650 dogs entered in Westminster’s 134 shows through 2011. Through the 2011 show, there have been 1,705 judges who have officiated at least once at Westminster, some as many as 23 times, at Westminster.
