The silent film ‘The Artist’ emerged victorious at this year’s Oscars. The movie picked up a total of 5 awards including Best Picture, Best Actor for Jean Dujardin and Best Director for Michel Hazanavicius. The last time a silent movie won such prestigious award was when ‘Wings’, a World War I saga, was named outstanding picture during the first Oscars in 1929.

Meryl Streep, also one of the night’s biggest winners, took the Best Actress trophy for her portrayal of Margaret Thatcher in the ‘The Iron Lady’. This is her 3rd time to win an Academy Award and her 17th time to be nominated, the most number of Oscar nominations held by anyone so far.
