Evoni Williams, an 18-year-old waitress at a Waffle House restaurant in Texas, recently gained widespread attention after a photo of her cutting up food for an elderly customer went viral on social media. The customer was struggling to eat his meal while hooked up to an oxygen tank, and Williams didn’t hesitate to help him.
Laura Wolf, a patron who witnessed the act of kindness, shared a photo on Facebook, which quickly gained over 35,000 shares. Williams, who is saving up for college, has now received a $16,000 scholarship donated by Texas Southern University, as well as her own day declared by the City of La Marque.
However, Williams maintains that her gesture was nothing out of the ordinary and something she would do any other day.
