South Korea-based LG Electronics, the world’s No.2 TV maker is reportedly planning to give Google TV another try in the U.S. — possibly as soon as this month.
LG Electronics Inc. hopes to further steal a march on its rivals by bringing forward the launch of a 55-inch flat-screen TV using next-generation technology.
The internet-enabled TV based on Google’s platform will be launched in the United States on May 21, Ro Seogho, executive vice president of LG’s TV business unit announced on Monday.
“Production of Google TVs will start from May 17 from our factory in Mexico and U.S. consumers will be able to buy the product from the week of May 21,” Ro Seogho said in a small group of reporters.
Features of Google TV include being able to use a smartphone as a remote control, searching the Internet on the TV while watching a show, and creating a home page with app launch icons and TV channels.
