The record price for 1962 Ferrari 250 GTO was 35 million sold to car collector Craig McCaw by Eric Heerema. This apple green Ferrari today claims to be the most expensive car in the world and this car was built by Ferrari for UK driver Sir Stirling Moss. Though Moss was not able to race it, Innes Ireland and his teammate raced the car in 1962 LeMans. Its career ended when it experienced a terrible crash in Sussex and never raced again.

The car was put up to auction and was recognized by a numbers or private car collectors. It was bought by Heerema to a Japanese car collector named Yoshiho Matsuda for only $8.5 million 10 years ago and now it surprisingly become that expensive that it ventured for additional $26 million. Though it never won the race of cars, and after almost 50 years, it won the title for being one of the most expensive cars of its time.
